Lavandula's Lavender Harvest Festival
Lavandula's Lavender Harvest Festival

Ninety minutes from Melbourne, and just north of Daylesford in central Victoria, Lavandula has space and beautiful vistas. At its heart is the golden stone rustica, a cluster of farm buildings constructed by Italians from southern Switzerland who came to look for gold and stayed to farm. The farmhouse is open for viewing each afternoon and gives an immediate sense of Italian rural life in 1860s Victoria. La Trattoria serves lunch. The Barn sells home wares, body products and gifts.

Location: 350 Hepburn-Newstead Road, Shepherds Flat, Victoria (10 minutes north of Daylesford)

Celebrate the traditional process of harvesting lavender by hand using half-moon sickles; dried beneath the verandah of the 1860s stone farmhouse; winnowed for its fragrant flowers; and distilled to produce lavender water and essential oil.
It'll be a day filled with music, demonstrations, activities for the kids, food, ice cream ... and lavender. There will also be informative tours of the original 1860s farmhouse.
Gate fee: $6 per adult / $2 per school-age child. Dogs welcome on leash.
